Adding a new business license on the citizen portal
If you have added a Business Account, you can apply for a new business license from the Citizen Portal.
- Click the Go button on the Business Portal tile from the Citizen Portal.
- Select the business you would like to manage from the drop-down menu under Manage My Businesses. Then, click Go.
- Click on Add a New License. This will open the Business License Application wizard.
How to add a business license
The first step of the wizard allows you to select the Business that this license is for.
- Your Business should already be selected from the drop-down menu, but can be adjusted if needed.
- Click Next.
Type
The second step of the wizard allows you to select the Type of license for this application.
- Select the Type of license you are applying for.
- Click Next.
Location
The third step of the wizard allows you to define the Location of the business for this license.
- The Location Name should already be populated, but can be adjusted if necessary.
- Check the Same as business? box if the address should match your business account. Otherwise, adjust the address fields if needed or click the enter a parcel # link to enter a parcel number instead.
- Check the Send certificates to this address box, if needed. *Note: If you do not check this box, all certificates will be sent to the address listed for the business account.
- Check the Send bill and renewal notices to this address box, if needed.
- Click Next.
Review
The fourth step of the wizard gives you an opportunity to review the business license information you have entered to verify that it is correct before creating the license in SmartGov.
- Click Edit next to any section of information where you need to make a change. *Note: The Business Account section cannot be edited here.
- Once you have finished reviewing and editing the business license information, click Save Application.
- A confirmation window will display, with the option to go to your new license.
Finishing your business license application
Once you have completed the Business License wizard, you will still need to complete certain steps to finish your license application. You must be logged in to the Citizen Portal to manage your license application. You will receive email notifications throughout the application process depending on the email notifications you are set up to receive.
- Click the Go button on the Business Portal tile from the Citizen Portal.
- Select the business whose license you would like to complete from the drop-down menu under the Manage My Businesses panel. Then, click Go.
- Click on the license number of the business license that you would like to finish.
- The Business Account Information and Business Location sections should be marked as "Done". Sections that require your attention will be marked as "Not Complete". *Note: The sections that need to be completed will depend on the License Type and the configuration established by your jurisdiction. You may not complete your license application until all "Not Complete" sections are marked as "Done".

The Notes section lists any notes associated with your business license application. Each note will include the note text and the date the note was created.

The Owners & Contacts section may require you to provide additional information for owners or contacts of your business. *Note: Required fields will be marked with a red asterisk.
- Click Owners & Contacts to expand this section.
- Click Add Contact if you need to add any additional contacts to this business license.
- Click Edit Profile next to any contacts marked with the "Not Complete" icon (
).
- Certain information may be required, depending on the setup of your jurisdiction. Complete all required fields.
- Click Save to finalize any changes you have made.
- Click Remove next to any contact that should be removed. *Note: You cannot remove any contact with the role of Business Owner.

The License Details section may require you to provide additional information about the business license that will help the jurisdiction to appropriately respond to your application. *Note: Required fields will be marked with a red asterisk.
- Click License Details to expand this section.
- Certain information may be required, depending on the setup of your jurisdiction. Complete all required fields.
- Click Save to finalize any changes you have made.

The License Activities section may require you to complete additional activities for the business license that will help the jurisdiction to appropriately respond to your application.

- Certain information may be required, depending on the setup of your jurisdiction. Complete all required fields.
- Click Save to finalize any changes you have made.

The Submittals section may require you to provide additional documentation needed for your application. *Note: At least one document must be uploaded for each requirement in order for this section to be considered complete. Be sure to provide all information requested. If no Upload button is present next to a submittal, you will not be able to upload it from the Citizen Portal. Contact your jurisdiction if you need assistance.
- Click Submittals to expand this section.
- Click Upload next to a Submittal to add the appropriate file. *Note: Submittals that require you to upload a file will be marked with a warning icon (
).
- Click Choose File to select the file from your computer.
- Enter any Comments you would like to provide for the jurisdiction, if needed.
- Click Upload.

The Supporting Licenses section may require additional forms to be completed, depending on the type of license you are applying for. *Note: This section will display as "Not Complete" until all required information has been provided for any supporting licenses.
- Check the box next to each of the Additional Forms that you need for this license, or check the box next to My license does not include any of these activities.
- Click Apply For License(s). A confirmation window will display. *Note: If you checked the "My license does not include any of these activities" box, you do not need to click this button. This section will be marked as "Done".
- You can navigate to your supporting license by clicking on the Go To Application button.
- Click on the X under Remove if you would like to remove the supporting license. *Note: You can only remove a supporting license while the application is not complete.

The Parcels section lists the parcels associated with the license application. You can click the Parcel number to view information related to the parcel.

The License Conditions section lists any conditions that may need to be verified prior to issuing your business license. The current status of the verification will display next to each condition.

The License Fees section lists any fees associated with your business license application and its supporting licenses. You will see each fee, the amount charged, amount paid, remaining balance, and the amount that is currently due. As your license application is processed, other fees may be added to your license or existing fee amounts may be updated.
- Click Pay Online to open the Pay Online page, where you will be able to process the payment.

The License Inspections section may allow you to request certain inspections to be completed for your license application, such as a Fire Inspection.
- Click Request Inspection next to the appropriate inspection.
- The Application and Inspection Type fields should be populated automatically, but can be adjusted if needed.
- Enter the date the inspection is Requested For or click on the calendar icon (
) to select a date from the calendar.
- Select a requested time option from the Requested For Time Slot drop-down menu.
- Enter any additional Comments if necessary. This may include a contact phone number, scheduling needs, or any information that may be beneficial to the inspector prior to arrival.
- Click the Request Inspection button. Your inspection request will be submitted to the jurisdiction for approval.

The License Approval Steps section allows you to view what approvals are still required to complete your license application.

The Renewal History section will display once there is a pending or past renewal for this license, and will show a list of the five most recent renewals, their status, issued and expiration dates, and any fees.
- Once all sections are marked as "Done", click Submit Final Information at the top of the page to complete your business license application. *Note: Your license application is not considered complete until you have clicked "Submit Final Information". This will lock down your license application and you will be unable to make further changes unless the jurisdiction allows you to do so.
Other business license actions
You can take actions on your business license outside of those that are required to submit the application, such as printing the license certificate.
How to print a business license
If the business license has been issued, and has been configured to allow it, you can print a license certificate for a parent or child business license.
- Click the Go button on the Business Portal tile from the Citizen Portal.
- Select the business whose license you would like to print from the drop-down menu under the Manage My Businesses panel. Then, click Go.
- Click on the license number of the business license that you would like to print.
- Click Print License in the top right corner of the business license.
- The license certificate will display, and you can download it to your computer's hard drive or print a physical copy, if needed.
