ENERGY STAR submissions and scores

ENERGY STAR accepts energy and water meter data. However, water meter data does not affect your ENERGY STAR score and is tracked and analyzed separately in Portfolio Manager. *Note: Portfolio Manager is a third-party software created and managed by ENERGY STAR. Brightly provides support for the connection between Energy Manager and Portfolio Manager. For issues related to this connection, please contact Client Services. For technical issues related to the use of Portfolio Manager, please contact ENERGY STAR support.

Submitting meter data

Energy Manager allows you to submit meter data for one or more facilities in your organization. You also have the option of submitting the meter data aggregated for all facilities by the utility service. *Note: If you have questions about the advantages of each approach, please contact Client Services.

  1. Select Energy Star from the navigation menu.
  2. Click on Meter Data.
  3. In the Facilities section, choose the facilities you would like to submit data for.
    • ALL: This option will submit data for all facilities in your organization.
    • Group/Subgroup: This option will submit data for a Group or Subgroup of facilities if defined in your account.
    • Select: This option will allow you to submit data for one or more facilities by clicking the Selected link that appears when this option is chosen.
  4. Check the box next to each Service that you want to include in the upload.
  5. Select the Start date and End date. *Note: You can upload any range of dates. However, only the most recent 12 months of data will be used when determining if a facility’s score is eligible for ENERGY STAR certification.
  6. Check the Overwrite box if you want to replace any data that already exists in Portfolio Manager for the selected facilities.
    • In the Confirm Overwrite window, click Yes to overwrite the data, otherwise click No to close the window and return to the Meter Data page.
  7. If you want to upload months where the cost and usage are both zero, click the Zero values box. This option allows you to upload heating related utilities that may have zero usage during warmer months, but still incur a service fee.
  8. Click the Update Data button to upload the data to Portfolio Manager. *Note: In order to receive an ENERGY STAR score for a facility, you must have a full 12 months of meter data in Portfolio Manager. For example, to receive a score for December 2019, you must have uploaded meter data for January 2019 through December 2019.
  9. Click the View Existing button to see any existing meter data that has been uploaded for the selected facilities.

       Bright Idea:

It is recommended that you submit one facility initially to make sure that the connection to Portfolio Manager works properly. Once you confirm the connection, you can progressively upload more data.
